A client and their family came to me during an incredibly difficult chapter of their lives. After being found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI), the client was civilly committed to a Washington State facility, facing prolonged confinement and uncertainty about the future. The process was overwhelming, not only for the client but also for loved ones who wanted reassurance, stability, and a clear legal path forward.
I represented the client throughout commitment review proceedings and worked closely with mental health professionals to present a comprehensive, evidence-based release plan. By highlighting the client’s treatment progress, insight into their diagnosis, and strong community support system, I successfully advocated for a conditional release that prioritized both public safety and the client’s right to liberty.
Today, the client is living in the community, continuing treatment, and rebuilding meaningful relationships with family. This outcome reflects my commitment to civil commitment defense, mental health rights, and compassionate advocacy for individuals navigating the NGRI system in Washington State.
